A startup company accepted into a six-month accelerator in Wisconsin has a little bit of Iowa flavor to it.

Alex Shurman, a 2010 graduate of Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines, serves as project manager of the water data company pHinding Solutions.

The startup was accepted recently into the Water Technology Council’s accelerator in Milwaukee.

The company creates tools that helps anyone interested collect, aggregate and view data. It can then be used in various industries, including schools, research and food industry, to help those using it become more efficient.

The Water Technology Council’s accelerator will begin Sept. 1 and also gives its six resident companies seed funding, discounted housing and office space during the program. The companies get $ 50,000 grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.

The six companies were chosen out of about 50 applicants for the program’s second class of accelerator firms.
