The students at Parkville Community School in Hartford were thinking green. In honor of Earth Day, Unitex, a regional healthcare laundry industry business with locations throughout the Northeast (including Hartford), challenged every student at the local school to demonstrate how their class practices sustainability to protect the earth. Miss O’Hara’s preschool class won the “clean and green” Earth Day contest and was awarded a pizza party, sponsored by Unitex. In addition, the local company presented a check to the school for the future of their technology department.
“It’s remarkable that a company like Unitex would partner with us to build a better future for our children,” said Miss O’Hara, preschool teacher at Parkville Community School “The class was excited to create this project and they were thrilled to win a pizza party and celebrate Earth Day with the team at Unitex.”
Miss O’Hara’s class showed how together, we all could encourage others to conserve, save energy and protect the environment. The students shared all of their original ideas from walking to school to recycling their juice boxes. Their efforts were awarded the first place prize.
Committed to giving back to the community, Unitex planned other Earth Day school events throughout the Northeast during April.
“Our company is very committed to Hartford so it was a natural fit to support the Parkville Community School in celebration of Earth Day, said Seth Gershman, Director of Marketing & Communications, Unitex. “It was incredible to see how engaged these children were in this contest and how serious they think sustainability really is. Our company strives to help protect the earth and it is a pleasure to see that these students think the same way.”
